Photographer Elliott Erwitt says good pictures are merely the result of noticing things. So I always keep my good eye open. He also said that you could take good pictures anywhere, even in New Jersey...so I moved there. I hope he never says to poke both my eyes out with a screw driver.
For the past 38 years I have made my living as a photographer, teacher and photo editor. Since 1982 I have worked at The Philadelphia Inquirer. Prior to that I worked at newspapers in Missouri and Florida.
My first experience as a photographer came while serving in the US Army as a combat photograpoher in South Vietnam.
Over the years my work has evolved from the more or less straight documentary approach of a journalist photographer to a more personal way of seeing and recording the world around me.
